OCH Art Market is excited to present our February 11th, Valentine’s themed Market! This market we are celebrating all things romance with gifts including flowers, chocolates, jewelry, soaps, lotions, art and more. We will have live music and hot food too. Come out and find the perfect, unique, hand made gift and keep your new year on the right track.

We are happy to have the NOLA Locavore’s Local Foods Cafe serving an arts brunch to market vendors and shoppers. This venture, a collaboration with PPX and Hollygrove Market, will be the first permanent location in New Orleans for an all local foods dining experience and will only be open during the art market hours. Come enjoy how good a brunch can be when made with only fresh ingredients sourced within a 200 mile radius of New Orleans.

The OCH Art Market is a monthly event located in the heart of Central City at 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard indoors in the Zeitgeist theatre. This often underrated Central City neighborhood is a thriving community, full of creative and social ventures alike. The OCH Art Market is taking on the role to raise awareness and appreciation of this nationally recognized historic district and to attract shoppers back to former Dryades Street. The market gives an opportunity for artists who are “testing the waters” to showcase their talents in a public arena. The booth fees, at $25, are less than half of the nearby Freret street market and allows a more diverse collection of vendors. The arts are a great way to bring a community together and are a good base for a neighborhood revitalization effort.

Each month the OCH Art Market has a unique theme that keeps the vendors and shoppers fresh. Our February market is themed Valentines and we will have a large selection of flower and jewelry vendors. Jeannette Bell will be bringing floral arrangements from her own garden located blocks away at 2100 Baronne Street. Come out and buy something special for someone you love. Enjoy live music and fresh food and shop locally!

As at every market, produce boxes from Hollygrove Farm & Market will be available for pickup as the market is a designated satellite location for Hollygrove.(make sure to reserve one online at www.hollygrovemarket.com)

OCH Art Market is excited to present our September 10th Art Market theme “Wellness”.

In addition to the outstanding locally made arts and crafts vendors the OCH Art Market will be hosting products and workshops that promote and encourage better heath & living.

Come discovery and learn about Raw Food, Aromatherapy, Yoga, Reflexology, Reiki, Meditation and Baby Wellness; these are just a few of the attractions for this revitalizing market.

The Louise Martin Mezzanine

As well as our vendor spaces, we now offering a new 600 sq. ft studio space which is available as a private classroom and/or studio space for workshops, talks, presentations, etc. This unique space can seat up to 30 people is offered at $10 an hour to rent.

Available time slots left are: 10am-10:50am, 11am-11:50am, 1pm-1:50pm and 3pm-3:50pm.

A new art market is gaining attention in Central City.

The O.C.H. Art Market, named for its location on 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., was created in November 2010 by founders Lee Stafford and Lesley Wells. Stafford and Wells are passionate about revitalizing the Boulevard and bringing more foot traffic into the area.

“We feel that arts and culture are key to revitalizing the neighborhood and felt that a monthly art market would be a great way for people to see Central City in a positive light,” said Wells.

The market is located amongst other organizations in the area committed to the Boulevard’s resurgence. It is held inside the Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center, a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteer artists. Each week the Zeitgeist presents a variety of arts entertainment including film, music, performance art, and literary events. Located across the street is Café Reconcile, a non-profit restaurant committed to providing culinary training for at-risk youth in the area. In the next block, the Ashe Cultural Arts Center aims to revive the area by serving as a creative gathering place for the local community. Members of the O.C. Haley Boulevard Merchants and Business Association look forward to new retail businesses and restaurants opening in the area.

“We see this market as an anchor for many other neighborhood activities to build upon,” said Wells.

The O.C.H. Art Market is free to attend with live entertainment, local food, and arts and crafts from varied vendors. Last month’s entertainment featured belly dancers and local musicians. Food vendors included Surrey’s Cafe & Juice Bar and Challah Nola. The art vendors presented wares such as original paintings, handcrafted jewelry, and leather Carnival masks.

Unique to this market is its Slow Biking Competition. Competitors ride as slowly as possible down a marked lane. Whoever is timed at riding the slowest wins a free bike. The idea was introduced by Kasper König, a Dutch visitor to New Orleans who first witnessed a slow biking competition during his travels in China. He then held similar events in Holland and Germany, incorporating live music with the biking.

“He asked if he could hold a slow biking competition at our first art market back in November. It was a success and we decided to carry on the tradition at every market. Our monthly musician is Pockets McCoy and Friends,” said Wells.

The O.C.H. Art market is growing with more vendors and visitors each month and there are plans to include local produce in the near future.
